Every day millions of people make use of the street, but there is hardly any professional literature on how to design a good and beautiful street. This book collects and analyzes the 84 streets that experts consider to be the best designed streets in the Netherlands. This led to ten guidelines for the best design of a street.

The best designed streets in thirteen Dutch cities are divided into five categories: the residential street, the urban street, the avenue, the urban boulevard, and the approach road. The street walls, the layout of the street and the vegetation, the traffic and the underground level are analysed. Moreover, various experts, from landscape architects to a traffic expert and a tree consultant, share their knowledge about how to design a street.
