Renowned graphic artist Hendrik Nicolaas Werkman (1882-1945) is also famous for his remarkable letters. This monumental publication contains five complete series of correspondence concerning De Blauwe Schuit (The Blue Barge), the publishing house Werkman ran in secret during the Second World War. This extensive annotated edition contains all the recovered letters exchanged by Werkman and his correspondents, who include Willem Sandberg.

Frans Blom is a lecturer at the Dutch Language and Culture Department of the University of Amsterdam. Willem van Koppen studied Theoretical and Comparative Literature and is a freelance editor.
