Christian Welzbacher   Euro Islam Architecture New Mosques in the West --- Every year more than hundred mosques are to be build all over Europe. This leads to controversies and misunderstandings. In 'Euro Islamic Architecture. New Mosques in the West', Christian Welzbacher writes about the consequences of this development for architecture and society.
Does Euro-Islamic architecture exist? Getting so many new prayer houses build, we have to acknowledge that there is something like a Euro-Islamic architecture. What do these buildings look like? What meaning do they have for architecture in general? Welzbacher describes the new architecture of the Islam in Europe and shows that the self confidence of European Muslims has increased enormously. This is to be seen in the new mosques in Rotterdam, in Köln, the competitions in Strassbourg and London.
